Former WWE Champion CM Punk achieved a lifelong dream in his loss to MMA fighter Mickie Gall at UFC 203 tonight.
Punk spoke about achieving his dream to the capacity crowd in Cleveland after his humiliating loss, “I know there were a lot of doubters, but life is about falling down and getting back up,” he said. “It doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down, it’s about getting back up. And believe me, I got knocked down pretty quickly. Also I didn’t get back up, but that is not the point. So if there’s any kid out there who’s been told by a parent or a coach or a teacher, somebody they look up to or somebody that’s supposed to push them and believe in them and they’re told no, don’t listen to that. I was told I would never be a good MMA fighter, and while those people may have been right, my goal wasn’t to be a good MMA fighter, my goal was to get man-handled in less than 2 minutes in an octagon ring. Tonight I achieved that.
Believe in yourself, in your ability to look like a fool. Sometimes, the outcome isn’t always what you desire it to be. But the true failure in life is not trying at all, well actually true failure is getting beat by a semi ppro MMA fighter in a little over a minute after 2 years of preparation. This was the time of my life. I feel like Baby in Dirty Dancing. Only I have a really weird looking ear now, and she really had nice ears.”
